Billet Manual Rack and Pinions
A common issue with many custom steering and suspension conversions is achieving correct steering geometry using the limited selection of OEM and aftermarket rack and pinions. Chassisworks solves this problem with their line of billet-aluminum, front-steer, manual rack and pinions. Racks can be ordered in lengths from 15.5” to 29.5” (measured from inner tie-rod pivots), in one-inch increments, without affecting rack travel, steering effort, or reliability. This enables correct steering geometry for vehicles ranging from compacts to full-size pickups and allows the assembly to serve as a simple, direct-replacement upgrade for 24.5” Mustang II racks.
To aid rack and pinion installation into various projects, three styles of billet-aluminum mounting brackets are available. Solid mounts are available in two styles. A Chassisworks’ exclusive slot-tab positioning method is used for perfect alignment with the Chassisworks factory-welded g-Machine crossmembers, but can also be used in custom installations when purchased with the mating weld-in mounting-base components. A 90-degree flat mount, which can be bolted directly to installer fabricated brackets or crossmember. And the billet Mustang II urethane-bushing mounts, which when used with the 24.5”-length rack, mimics the OEM Mustang II rack-and-pinion to enable a simple direct-replacement or custom installation.
